It had been nearly three days before Kyuhyun finally showed signs of waking up. Leeteuk sat in a chair next to the bed the young man was laying in, flipping lazily through the channels on the TV adjacent him when Kyuhyun suddenly groaned in his sleep.
Sitting up straighter, Leeteuk glanced over at him.
Is he waking up?
Kyuhyun opened his eyes slowly and groaned, he felt hungover and like he hadn't eaten in days, his body aching in ways he didn't know it could, even his skin felt off.
That's the last time I go to bed angry He thought to himself, thinking the whole experience with the special winged dark angel 'Leeteuk' to be a fabrication of his dreams.
His vision was still blurry, so it had not yet registered that he wasn't in his apartment.
Leeteuk stood as he saw Kyuhyun stirring, meandering over to the bedside so he could lean over Kyuhyun. The bite on his neck from before was completely gone, and his skin looked somehow paler than before.
Leeteuk smiled, it seems as if the process was completed perfectly.
"Are you awake?" He asked, gently caressing Kyuhyun's cheek.
Kyuhyun startled, sitting up and rubbing his eyes at the voice "Sungmin?" he groaned out, trying to clear his vision. It didn't sound like Sungmin though, it sounded like...
"Leeteuk!?" Kyuhyun immediately scrambled to the far corner of the bed he was on when he saw the man in his nightmare, the man that had cornered him, bit him and drank his blood before letting a poison seep through him and sprouting wings.
What was a figment of his imagination doing in his room?
It was then that he noticed that he wasn't at home and his eyes went wide in fear. Was that not a dream? His hand flung to where he was expecting a healing wound to be but found nothing but soft skin. Was he still dreaming?
"I can see you must be confused." Leeteuk chuckled. "They always have the same reaction, but you're not dreaming, Kyuhyun. This is real." He smiled. "Also, I'm not a vampire. I'm something completely different. Though everyone always seemed to think I'm a vampire."
He paused, noticing the way Kyuhyun was perched on the end of the bed, as far as him from possible. "I'm not going to hurt you." He said.
"N-not going to hurt me!?" Kyuhyun shrieked in disbelief "You cornered me in a dark alley, held me against a wall and drank my blood!" It was a gutsy thing to say to someone that was clearly a lot stronger than him, but he had already faced death by this man once, he found it hard to believe that he wouldn't be hurt again. Especially when he assumed he was being held captive.
Kyuhyun didn't understand, why was he here? And how did this Leeteuk know what he was thinking? He was either very good at guessing from previous experience or could hear his thoughts. That alone scared the hell out of him.
He couldn't believe Leeteuk wasn't a vampire, sure vampires didn't sprout wings or have venom according to legend, but he knew vampires drank blood. If he wasn't a vampire, just what the hell was he!?
Leeteuk raised an eyebrow. "I never said I didn't have my reasons for doing that before." He smirked. "What if I was doing it to protect you?"
While he waited for Kyuhyun to process that he suddenly laughed.
"Yes, I can read your thoughts." He said. "But, as I already pointed out, I'm not a vampire. Contrary to what most people think, vampires can't turn other people into vampires. Only dark angels can turn people into vampires, and that's what I am."
Kyuhyun took a moment to process this all, okay, so Leeteuk wasn't going to hurt him now, and only did so before to protect him for some unknown reason, he could read his thoughts and wasn't a vampire but a dark angel, and only dark angels could make vampires. Okay. Right. Got it.
Wait what!?
Kyuhyun finally realized what that meant, if dark angels could make vampires and he was attacked by a dark angel and mostly if not fully healed from the attack...
"Are you saying I'm a vampire now!?" his jaw dropped, though he had his suspicions that Leeteuk was going to turn him when he thought he was a vampire, he had been under the impression that he was still very much alive. Even if he felt very different.
"That's exactly what I'm saying." Leeteuk smiled. "I'm glad I didn't have to spell it out for you." He paused and tilted his head to the side. "Why do all humans have such a misconceived view of vampires?" He cleared his throat. "You seem to think that vampires are the living dead, but they're not. They're just reborn."
Kyuhyun looked even more bewildered than before, so he decided to continue.
"Think of it like this." Leeteuk said. "I turn people into vampires for one of two reasons. Either to protect them or to give them a second chance. Sometimes, like with you, it's both reasons." Suddenly he reached out, grabbing Kyuhyun by the wrist and pulling him forward.
Kyuhyun made a scared noise in the back of his throat as he was tugged forward, not liking how close he was to the man with the wings and teeth that made him burn all over.
"W-why me?" he barely breathed out, as if talking to loud would make the man suddenly hurt him again.
Leeteuk laughed. "Why you? What a mundane question. Not what I was hoping for at all. I'll appease you, though." He sighed. "You recently broke up with your boyfriend, right? And then, in your stupidity, you ran away without telling anyone where you were going. And you've been missing for three days." He smirked. "The world thinks you're dead, Cho Kyuhyun. And that's exactly what I wanted."
He tightened his grip on the younger man. "Sungmin doesn't care about you. He never did. I know it must hurt to realize this, but you can't go running back to him. You have to forget him. There's someone else in your future. Besides," He smiled, leaning closer so their faces were just inches apart. "If you knew the shadow that had been stalking you, then you would've been glad that I found you first."
Kyuhyun took in every word from Leeteuk as if his very life depended on it, which by the sounds of it, his life really did depend on it.
He almost wanted to argue that Sungmin did love him, even if he knew it to be untrue, he was still bitter and upset about the whole scenario. And now Sungmin would think he was dead.
Kyuhyun actually smiled at that, thinking how guilty Sungmin must feel right now for, as far as the world was concerned, driving Kyuhyun to suicide. He quite liked the idea of Sungmin and Zhou Mi mourning him. Simply because they would be as miserable as he felt.
It was the last thing that Leeteuk said though that broke him out of his reverie "Shadow? What shadow? That doesn't sound very dangerous to me" he said stupidly, thinking literally, the harmless lack of light on the ground, he had seen plenty of those in his whole life, and none of them were scary, and the only one that followed him was his own.
"You're just trying to scare me more so I listen" he added with a swallow, thinking Leeteuk was just trying to get him to listen now that he was clearly something other than human.
Leeteuk gave him an exasperated look. "Your thought process doesn't make any sense to me, you know that?" He said. "But, if I was really trying to scare you so you'd listen, I'd probably do something more along the lines of this."
So saying, he pushed Kyuhyun down onto the bed and moved so he was crouched over him. Then he captured the younger's wrists and held them above his head as he released his wings, stretching the black-feathered limbs out as far as possible.
Leaning closer to Kyuhyun, he licked his lips, showing his fangs, and let his eyes flash red again.
"Are you willing to listen to me now?"
Kyuhyun didn't even struggle.
"I'm listening! I'm listening! Don't bite me!" He cringed, expecting those glimmering fangs to be torn through his flesh again, an experience he didn't want to have twice.
For an angel, Leeteuk was terrifying to him, everything about him screamed danger, and he knew from experience that he had no way to overpower the man. He felt like to Leeteuk he was just a toy.
He hoped he wasn't a temporary one.
"Good." Leeteuk smiled, letting his eyes fade back to their normal onyx hue. "Now that I've got your attention, I want you to listen. When I said 'shadow' I didn't mean it in the literal sense of the word." He stared Kyuhyun straight in the eye, making sure he was following. "I said shadow because if I told you what was really following you then you probably either wouldn't believe me . . . Or you'd go insane just trying to comprehend it."
He watched Kyuhyun closely, trying to gouge his reaction. He only wished that he didn't have to lay everything out like this, why did humans feel the incessant desire to so distort the truth with stories and legends?
Kyuhyun was learning quickly that he had to take what Leeteuk said for what it was, and take it as literally as possible. He didn't seem to mince his words, if he said shadow, he said it for a reason and he shouldn't ask otherwise.
He wondered if he would have to get used to this roundabout bluntness, if eternity really was on the menu for him now, he couldn't imagine spending it trying to decipher a man that meant everything as he gave it.
"Okay, I wont ask about it again..." Kyuhyun began, but then it occured to him that there was something dangerous after him "So this thing, this shadow... was trying to kill me?" he asked, just wondering if he had any visits from mr.shadow in the near future.
He certainly hope what he knew about vampires were true if it were the case.
"Well . . ." Leeteuk chuckled. "I wouldn't really say that it wants to kill you as much as it just wants to cause you pain. Think of the worst pain you could ever imagine, and then multiply it times one million." He stood, releasing Kyuhyun from his hold as he folded his wings down on his back. "That's what would've happened last night if I hadnt been there."
This was growing tiresome in Leeteuk's eyes. He wasn't much one for talking in long, drawn-out sentences.
"I bet you feel really thirsty, right?" Leeteuk said, changing the subject quite suddenly.
Kyuhyun began to shake, he hadn't noticed it until Leeteuk had pointed it out, far too confused to even think straight before.
He was thirsty, in fact not only did it feel like he hadn't eaten in days, it felt like he hadn't drank in weeks, his mouth was dry, and getting dryer as he stood there, his tongue feeling uncomfortable in his own mouth.
It felt like he couldn't get enough saliva to wet his mouth. It was an intense feeling that grew by the second, his mouth and stomach screaming for what it wanted.
And Kyuhyun got the feeling he knew exactly what he needed. Blood.
"Oh god" he covered his mouth, and stared at Leeteuk, wondering if he could move fast enough to get a drink from the dark angel, probably not.
Leeteuk smirked. "You didn't notice it until I said something, huh? Sorry. But now that the thirst is first and foremost in your mind we should go."
He paused and glanced back. "By the way, I would advise against drinking my blood. Only human blood can satiate your thirst, so it would be pointless." He took Kyuhyun by the wrist and pulled him to his feet. "Come on, let's go."
